Skied Cathedral Chute down to Fallen Leaf today. At the car at 6400', new snow amounts were ~1", and this was melting off the road. Air temps were right around freezing, and winds were calm down low. New snow amounts increased to a max of 8-10" at 8600', and hand shears showed no slab development at all, with a rightside up structure. The wind was almost non-existent, and snow transport was minimal, except for a few brief periods, right at the ridge. The crust was still obvious under the new snow, and was not entirely frozen, with an inch or two of denser snow right on top. In the chute itself, I moved some long running dry sluffs, including one that showed a tiny, 1" crown, but these were only in the surface snow, and not all the way down to the crust. I was bottoming out on the crust for a large portion of the ski down, but it was still pleasant skiing. Below around 7000', the new snow was wet, and my turns pushed some rollerballs, and loose wet activity. The underlying snow was also quite moist. Weather varied throughout the day quite a bit, with periods of no precip and sunshine alternating with periods of snowfall up to S2 intensity. However, accumulation during the day did not seem to be significant, with my skintrack still visible on the exit.
