Monday 3/13 winds were strong and swirling in Angell Basin temps were around 35 degrees. We believe this led to the bed surface today. The bed surface of this slide was somewhere between pen and 1 finger. We also noted above the bed surface was 4 inches of warmer snow, above that was lower density snow followed by 3 inches of high density wind effected snow that had blown upslope. We think this is mostly an isolated problem, but it’s hard to say.
Avalanche
We experienced shooting cracks every six or so feet, extending roughly 20 feet. This then led to a D1 16 inch crown about 50 feet in width. We were in small low consequence steep terrain. We did put a skin track under this terrain feature which may have led to this failure.
