Quick report
Traveled in the same zone yesterday and today and found today’s snowpack to be more consolidated and touchy. Tracks from yesterday were fully filled in and the new snow had a heavier, wind affected feel to it. Observed the dirt layer exposed in new places compared to yesterday and other signs of recent wind transport like new wind lips and texture on the snow surface. Our group got a few small wind slabs to pop off, and saw evidence of small crowns from yesterday or last night at a range of elevations that may have been natural, but nothing big enough to catch or carry a person. Sluff was less substantial than yesterday due to the slightly more consolidated snow at the surface, but was still present as we approached slightly steeper terrain. Avoided avalanche terrain due to the forecast and the change in conditions that we observed while traveling along the ridge today. Could feel the temperature beginning to drop and the wind had more bite today, and observed both snow and graupel falling.
