Quick report
We did a quick late afternoon tour of the Mt Judah area to look for surviving surface hoar. Temps were mild and wind below tree line was light out of the SW with mostly clear skies. At the 7800' level in the wildflower ridge area surface hoar was easy to find in sheltered true N facing areas. Solar aspects had a thin non supporting sun crust and some signs of deteriorated hoar. Upon reaching the Judah ridgeline SW winds were moderate with stronger gusts. Snow surface was mostly wind scoured or crusted with no active wind transport of snow observed. The south eastern bowl and ridgeline of Judah held soft cold snow in only the most N facing and sheltered zones, with some surface faceting noted. Any aspect with even slight solar exposure had light glazing or thicker nearly supportable sun crusts. I did not observe any surface hoar in the open, "above treeline" areas on the backside of Judah. The meadow below the backside of Judah had sun affected remnant surface hoar, some runnels, and thin crusts. This entire zone has been heavily skied this week.
