Quick Observation

Today in the Crowsnest Pass near Window Mountain we found 10 - 15 cm of recent snow has been redistributed from northeast winds onto south-facing slopes. There are wind slabs in this area that are not bonding to the previous surface of a hard and smooth melt-freeze crust due to a layer of faceted snow sandwiched between them. That said, the wind slab problem is small and only found directly lee of ridges and in extreme terrain. Temperatures are still cold -7.5 at 2200m at 12:30 and winds were picking up as we left to light SW. We skied the North facing slope that was variable and wind-affected. there were a few good turns lower down on the slope where it was more sheltered from the wind.
