The Great Angry Reset

The last few storm cycles have deposited approximately 40 cm of new, light snow over the consolidated older snow from several weeks ago. There are many (as many as 10) layers in the top 40 cm, but we only found 2 reactive layers in the cutblocks in Calazon. There is a storm snow interface down 15 that was failing in the easy range, and another down 25 that was failing in the moderate range. Mostly the snow below treeline wasn't dense enough to form slabs, however in a few steep wind exposed slopes in the cut blocks we saw shooting cracks and even broke out a couple pockets on small, very steep slopes. Everything we saw fail seemed to be in that top, 15 cm layer. It started snowing very hard by mid afternoon and there was very poor visibility. Lots of fun cutblock and tree riding to be had!
