Mount Hoffman

Breanne Johnson, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:33PM

Traveled all the way out to Mt. Hoffman from Fraser. Long 23km ski tour out and back from Bryant col where we left the sled. Lots of trailbreaking with the recent snow. Observed a significant amount of terrain. Two size 1 avalanches appeared to be less than 12 hrs old from wind loaded north aspect off Fraser peak. No other avalanches observed. Ski quality was great in sheltered areas where there was 30cm of powder over a hard surface. Surface snow has been redistributed in many wind exposed areas into 10cm of wind effect which is soft and "grabby" to skis in some places and hard and supportive in others. Probed 310cm on the glacier below mount Hoffman at 1700m. Wind was light for most of the day and picked up to moderate Southerly in the evening.
