Abbott Mini Paths

Meshwell Boschmann, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

All WRA's closed and about 15-20cm overnight at trailhead bringing the storm total to 35-40cm in the last 48hrs so we played it very conservative and avoided pretty much all overhead hazard. 40-45cm trail breaking in the openings and less under dense trees were tree bombs and sloughs had packed things down and exposed the Dec 8 crust in a couple places. First skied down from 1800m in an open feature in which one person in our group triggered a SZ 1.5 soft storm slab (45cm deep x 8m wide x 40m long) on a steep unsupported feature and went for a small ride. Not buried and no gear lost but a little shaken. The Dec 13 SH layer was clearly visible in the crown and the Dec 8 rain/temperature crust acted as the bed surface (see picture). The rest of the run was uneventful and we went for a second run from 1900m in a different open feature. Many large tree bombs came down around noon and good portions of our uptrack were completely burried by the time we climbed it again. 30cm crowns were observed on many pillows that had went naturally, seemed to have run on the Dec 13 SH. Many faceshots were had throughout the day but the storm snow did feel slightly heavier on our second lap.
