Scenic Sinclair Sastrugi Sledding

Northwest Inland

AVCAN FORECASTER , Tuesday 21st January, 2025 4:15PM

We went for a scenic sled at Sinclair to check out conditions after last week’s storm. The alpine was wind hammered with sastrugi and hard surfaces in most areas. There was some soft snow to be found in troughs and gullies but it made for challenging riding. We saw evidence of a natural avalanche cycle in the alpine from last week’s storm. Storm slabs up to size 2.5 on north and east aspects in the alpine. There was no recent avalanche activity. We dug in a wind-loaded, east-facing area in the alpine. We got sudden results down 40 cm on the older, hard surface showing us that the wind slab problem is still around. Overall it was a great day to enjoy some sunshine but riding conditions were less than ideal. Pray for snow :) ❄️
