Asulkan

kirstinkb, Monday 20th February, 2023 7:30AM

Significant wind the last 2 nights at the asulkan hut with waist deep powder on the tree triangle, wind slabs developing at tree line throughout the day yesterday. Our group ski cut a convex feature expecting a small isolated slide to trigger, but the crown was 60-80cm and ran maybe 150m, with sluffing triggering an additional smaller slab avalanche further down. 2 of us were able to safety navigate down the rib feature and the rest of the group skinned back up rather than risking further exposure to hang fire. Additional skier triggered wind slabs were visualized on small isolated convex features on the skin track back up to the hut. So much snow that it was hard to ski lower angle terrain. Happy to not be in areas with overhead today.
