Little whiteout on the prairie

AvCan Northwest, Wednesday 31st January, 2024 2:50PM
Today we went to investigate how badly the warming hit Hudson Bay Mountain. Bad news, it's crunchy and still warm. The surface snow was moist up to 1700 m. Beneath the surface there's a thin crust and then about 10 cm of older moist storm snow. Under this storm snow there is another 4 cm thick crust with more moist snow beneath it. It's been warm for a while now and the snow pack is settling rapidly. We weren't able to see much due to whiteout conditions, but the ski quality wasn't bad in sheltered treeline locations.
