Quick Observation

Today we had a look up the Van Horlick creek with hopes of finding dry fluffy powder snow on high elevation north facing terrain. Sadly, the intermittent sunshine combined with thin cloud created a “greenhouse effect” which resulted in the 15cm. of new snow becoming moist to at least 2100 m. on north aspects and to mountain tops on solars. We didn’t observe any new avalanches today. Fresh wind slabs and large cornices were our primary concerns in the alpine and small wet loose avalanches at treeline.
