Quick Observation

With clear skies and a solid overnight refreeze, we strapped on the ski crampons and managed our aspects to hit the corn cycle. Alpine temps stayed below freezing with a light north east wind. We gave cornices a wide berth today, in particular a monster forty footer had us choosing terrain that limited our exposure to overhead hazard. On steep SE aspects, the surface snow had softened by 1200 and by 1230 delivered great turns on perfect corn snow. Timing is everything! The photos show us skiing terrain that did not slide during last weekend’s big warm up. We paid attention to solar input and surface conditions and were out of the field by early afternoon.
