Photos from Parks Canada helicopter operations at Chilkoot Pass area showing spring conditions May 16, 2017. Warm day 6 C in alpine at 880 m at noon. It had frozen overnight, with supportive crust for ski/foot travel in morning. Still 2-3 m snowpack at Chilkoot Pass (1070m) and 1.5 m snow pack at Happy Camp (880m). Observations from air of Mt Taiya start zone above Crater Lake: N face cornice no longer a natural trigger concern. North slopes show some small wet slides, no large naturals noted on this slope. Lakes in high alpine are still snow/ice covered, but lower elevation lakes below 700 m are mostly ice free.
