DEEP & Stable @ Eagle Pass!

North Columbia

We found 30 to as much as 50 cm of new snow from the last couple of days at Eagle Pass. The new snow was stable as could be. The upper 5 cm was sluffing in steep terrain, but otherwise we didn't see a single avalanche, and we had great visibility. Wind was light and variable all day. Felt like a deep January storm day. The new snow is not sitting on a weak layer, and we pushed into a lot of steep terrain at treeline with no results. The alpine *may* be a different story, the concern there may be new snow on a sun crust on solar aspects? The alpine did not look very wind affected to us. When the sun comes out it's all gonna change, when that happens it will be time to back off all solar aspects as there will probably be some rowdy loose wet avalanches. But, until that happens it's incredible from about 1700 m on up. Get out there and enjoy, this may be one of the last cold storms of the season?

Snow conditions were: Deep powder. Riding quality was amazing.

Avalache Conditions: 30cm + of new snow, or significant drifitng, or rain in the last 48 hours.
