Managed to drive the first 2km on the road then hiked another 7 km before reaching snowline, the last 1 km being pretty horrendous with skis & boots on the pack. Postholing in the drainage around trees then hard crust all the way to the ridge. No signs of recent avalanches, crust stayed cold all day with limited direct solar heating. Skinned and bootpack up the ridge to less than 100m from summit and pulled the plug for lack of visibility. Waited out back down on the ridge and decided to ski down knowing the truck was a long way out. Thin snowpack and some exposed rock on the ridge. Fairly consistent hard crust to willows than variable snowpack until the snow runs out. A challenging day out in the front range!
