Mount Harvey

Skied up Mount Harvey to photograph the 'full' moonrise behind the bulk of The Babines but clouds to the east reduced its visibility to an opaque dim orb. Nice sunset in the west though. Strong to extreme SW winds on the summit with lots of snow transport. 'The Windema' is so cleansing. Strong wind effect in alpine ranging from bare ground, hard wind slabs, and softer deep wind slabs in depressions. In many areas at and just above TL, pole probing revealed fresh wind slabs forming on top of ~10 cms of faceting snow on top of the rain crust.--seems like a weak sandwich of layers. Surprisingly, this all skied quite well...well...you had to Big Wave Surf it. Just out of the wind, from just above TL to half way down the trail it was ~15cms of cakey-powder transitioning to crusty survival hairpin corners lower down.
