A rainy drive through the Park

Long Range Mountains

Mid day rain and afternoon temps of +10*C, has definitely knocked back the snowpack. Aprons and run outs in the Tablelands have thinned significantly. Lots of rocks, a lot less options. We saw a number of small, wet loose avalanches out of alpine features, with a variety of wet snow conditions along Route 430/431. In the woods on top of Southeast Hill(400m), the Feb. 25th crust was still supportive to walk on, under 15 cm of warm new snow. Skiing would have been poor. Access would have come with all the hazards. We stuck to the truck.
