Planters Valley - ice

Grant P, Wednesday 29th November, 2023 9:38PM
Went into Planters Valley as four and split into two ropes teams. Barry and Kevin climbed Anorexia Nervosa (AN) and reported it climbed and protected well. The start of Weathering Heights is missing or a thin veneer so not really in. Myself and John continued along to Peanut Gallery (PG). We passed a climb on the left but not sure if it is considered all part of PG or a different climb. The pillar looked chandeliered and wet so expect it to grow. PG P1 climbed well on the right side and protected well but there was some fracturing. Ice was dry. Mid pitch had an ice lens but short. Upper part was blobby but fairly easy. A couple clear ice windows on the pitch are thicker than they appear. PG P2 was well formed but wet. Dryest line was on the left. There was also a separate line, lower angle, narrow, but looked decent. The bowl above has a multitude of ice in various states of forming. P3 had a steep pillar that looked stout and wet. We heard a yodel from Barry down the valley and decided it was a call to leave rather than face a steep soaking pitch. Although the day wasn't especially cold, it was very windy and felt cold. Not too much snow yet so the approach included a lot of tedious boulder hopping.
