Shames Backcountry

chataway.mike, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Saw one wet slab on south aspect of the dome at or just to the right of the normal up track. No other crowns seen. Lots of loose wet from trees and rock faces surrounding Shames. May need to zoom way in to see the crown in the pics as light level was low. Skied trees inbounds, glorious wet umtracked powder. Walked back towards the dome at 1 to check things out and walked back inbounds at 3 (did not ski anything). Tried out a compression test on SE aspect at treeline. 2.55m snowpack depth, 22 deg slope. Collapsed on 17th tap down 45cm on what looked like surface hoar. No other results. There was very little backcountry travel today, just us and an AST1 course. Minimal/no travel yesterday as well (other than the AST1 crew).
