Video Peak

bryan.daneau, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Great day on Video - the overnight winds refreshed the face nicely. We got two runs in and it was boot top. Skied the SE face and it was perfect - we checked out the S line off the summit but it seemed crusty and wind affected so we did our two runs down the main face. Exited via the moraines of Hospital bowl - variable conditions (boot top to crust to old avi debris). No signs of any instabilities whatsoever over the course of the day. Minimal wind slab and no power sloughing either. We exited via the chutes to skiers right of hospital gulley - just deep snow, no wind effect, no sluffing even in the choke, just good turns to be had until we were back to the icy up/down track area. Ski crampons were useful near the top of Video (but not mandatory). Winds were picking up around 1:30pm and so did the clouds. Excellent turns to be had if you know how to hunt. Touristy exits were quite tracked out. I wouldn’t bother with Ursus Trees until it refreshes significantly. Finally, up track from across STS wasn’t as hideous as we expected but we had our crampons ready just in case ...
