Fun Times Up the Beaver

<p>Riding was firm but fun today, our tracks were only cutting about 5-10cm into the wind pressed snow and travelling was easy. Winds were strong from the southwest but no longer moving much snow around. There was evidence of a widespread avalanche cycle in the area from last week that released large destructive avalanches. The fracture lines from these slides were almost completely blown in and reloaded with new snow in most cases. We saw no evidence of more recent slides. In our test pit we still had some sudden results on weak layers down 18 and 30cm's, but numerous sled test cuts on steep wind loaded slopes yielded no results. A new layer of feathery surface hoar has grown on the surface up to treeline elevations. It may be the new weak layer to watch after the next big storm rolls through and buries it!
