Great riding conditions in surface faceting powder, however this layer sits on a variety of dubious interfaces

Snow conditions were: Deep powder. Weather conditions were: Cold, Sunny. We rode: Steep slopes. We avoided: Convex slopes. Riding quality was amazing.

30 to 50 cm of low density fist snow sits on a variety of surfaces depending on elevation and exposure. Buried surface hoar can be found wide spread in sheltered areas Tl Btl with a cold stubborn slab sitting on top faceting out.

Sa in steep unsupported terrain at tree line on NE aspect. First skier dropped in and caused large amounts of sluffing. Sluff triggered small slab avalanche that was slow to initiate in the cold conditions but once moving was able to entrain a lot of the available fist snow and run far.
