We went to the Microwave today to investigate the new snow over the Feb 10 rain crust. Due to the cold temps the previous rain crust is deteriorating and becoming breakable. Luckily there was about 15cm of new snow which made conditions much better. We had propagating extended column results which failed easily 25cm deep on the rain crust in one location. We also managed to find the old January 14 surface hoar down 55-80cm in both pits with sudden planar compression tests in the moderate to hard range. Cornices are large and looming and might be enough to trigger these deeper layers.
