Great day skiing Young’s Peak and Seven steps. Snow quality has slightly dererioated in the Alpine due to wind. The sun did come out in the afternoon. Temps were -7 at 2600 m at 12:00 and -2 at 14:30 at 1600 m. Lower west and south facing slopes got baked and had heavy wet snow by 14:00. The best snow quality is on sheltered north and east aspects which still hold great powder.
We did not find the buried crust on the Young’s headwall, but did have a variety or SP and RP hand shears down 40cm on a weak layer ascending west facing slopes at 2400 to 2600m. We did not have any whoomphfing, cracking and did not trigger any slabs when skiing.
We observed one small size 1 wet slough out of steep solar aspect, it did not trigger a larger slide.
We observed people skiing Forever Young and Thornington, with only sloughing. Great day.
