Excuse my lack of technical jargon here, but I’m going to set a scene for you all. There were many cars this morning in the disco parking lot, as to be expected for the first time the sun has shown in a painfully long time. The ski through Connaught is pleasantly filled in, with very few obstacles that might ruin your skis or break your femur. No signs of any natural or skier trigger activity as we looked around. It was cold any sunny, with very little wind in the valley or alpine. The skin track up through ursus trees was about as slick as it gets, but coverage and quality improved greatly as we gained elevation. Lots of parties skiing Video and VHS. We were keeping our ears and eyes peeled for this wind slab that people have been talkin’ about, but as we hand sheared our way up to 8812 on a similar south aspect, we could make absolutely nothing move. We felt good about our decision to drop, as did about 30 ppl before us, given the tracks. As we dropped in, there was no wind effect in the bowl. In the lower reaches of the bowl we found some wind effect and slabby feeling snow, but it was in quite low angle terrain. The skiing was awesome.
