Shames Valley Bottom

lucasmatt, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

Top of the T at 10am probed on a sheltered west aspect 1150m. Depth of 275cm, early Nov rain crust is down 175cm. Snowing 1cm an hour, winds were moderate to strong out of the south and visibility was poor. Deliverance Valley Bottom run probed on a west aspect at 950m, 185 snow depth, with a thin Nov 22nd rain crust down 35cm and early Nov rain crust down 155cm. Was snowing less than 1cm an hour. Ski quality was very good however the flat light, featured terrain and very deep snow did lead to a few small upsets which took a few minutes to extricate myself from. Skiing out the ski hill on south aspect was wind pressed deep snow with the snow becoming more wet towards the bottom where it was 1 degree at the base. Was able to see evidence of an extensive avalanche cycle out of the Geronimo Bowl/ Cold Sweat area likely 72hours old that ran to mid runout.
