Silver sands

Trapper Gilowski, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Today in the silver sands riding area we had the chance to observe many different aspects and elevations. In the meadows in the lower elevations there was very large surface hoar growth in the 5mm range, in more open areas the surface hoar was not as present due to the winds that have come through the area. In the alpine there has been evidence of loading on lee slopes. Pit results Elevation:1550m Aspect:NE Incline: 25 degrees Foot Pen: 15cm precip: Nil wind: moderate from the South West Sky: broken total height of snow 160cm. Temps: Air: -4.5 surface: -5.5 In our compression test we had results on a wind slab layer down 37cm CTH 22 on rounding facets 1-2mm in size. The ice layers sit down 84cm and a lower layer at 112cm these layers are very well bonded and the snow pack is very consolidated. Have fun and play safe!
