Skied in the Cleveland area including the NW glacier and S couloir. Elevation range 775 - 1865 m. Up to 3 m of snow on the glacier. Variable snow surfaces were experienced including crusty (due to frozen temperature affected snow), powder, wind affect and isothermal (late in the day). Experienced a few whumpfs below 1400 m.
Probed several areas on the glacier and overall the densities found felt stiffer and not loose/un consolidated or hard-soft-hard densities as other reports have noted in areas northeast of here. In some areas on the glacier, I may have felt a thin crust down 1 m bit did not dig so can’t be sure.
In the S couloir the boot penetration was about 25 cm in likely 4F/1F snow. Facets and crust found in the middle for a short section. Both the S and Diagonal couloirs had avalanches in them from the last cycle and the crowns were still visible.
Overall lots of debris from avalanches observed in the Cleveland valley on both north and south aspects. Other users in the area noted a large natural avalanche in the feather area from last cycle and possibly a snowmobile triggered avalanche (no involvement) near the Tabletop area today.
