Checked for buried surface hoar in sheltered north facing terrain between 2000 and 2250m and found it in a couple places: 30-35 down and 60-65cm down, both giving CTM20ish results. In both locations steep terrain above our intended ski lines had sluffed or avalanched in the last cycle, size 0.5 to 1.5, and did not step down to anything deeper. Ski quality was nice boot top pow.
The other (south) side of the mountains presented quite a contrast. The steep south face of Irish Queen (see photo) had fracture lines extending hundreds of meters across the mountain. Exposed south aspects were wind affected and sun crusted and we experienced a couple large settlements at treeline. Ski quality was a bit scrappy.
