East Mt. Washington

theron.finley, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:33PM

Skied east end of Mt. Washington slackcountry. Open protected areas had about 30cm of new powder, but there was only 15cm in the dense trees. Experienced numerous, significant whumpfs as storm slab collapsed under our weight. Slab often released on the corners of kick turns. At top of ridge we remotely triggered cracks on convexities, but no avalanches. We stayed in mellow dense trees. By midday, temps had warmed to 5C, snow became slushy and heavy, trees were dripping. Observed significant pinwheeling. Snow was very sticky, slow, making for unpleasent skinning and skiing.
