Beaver Fever

northrockiesfieldteam, Tuesday 14th February, 2023 4:50PM

We went to Beaver Creek today to see how wind and warming had effected the area. Along the power lines previous warm temperatures had left a thick, breakable crust. Higher up the snow was dense but dry and sled travel was easy. We took advantage of the sunshine and looked into plenty of alpine start zones. There were signs of numerous avalanches from the weekend below ridge lines and cornices. While these old windslabs are now stubborn, there is still plenty of snow available for transport. New winds were forming fresh slabs in the alpine so we stuck to the shorter tree line rolls and benches. It was a good day to practice whips, wheelies and getting around.
