Skied up S ridge of Brooks and down NW ridge and NE trees.
Day was clear, starting cool, but warming to ~-2C at treeline on non-solar aspects. None to light winds, with no transport of snow observed.
Solar aspects (S ridge of Brooks) were exhibiting changes in surface snow and tree bombs as early as 10am.
North aspects were skiing nicely with the new storm snow, though the number of parties on Brooks will ensure that more snowfall is needed before that can be enjoyed again.
After gaining confidence on the upper smaller rolls in the ridge (no release of convex test slopes with ski cuts and vigorous slash turns), a member of our party skied a more aggressive line on the lowest roller (~1400m), popping a ~5x5m x ~40cm soft slab on a ~40 degree convex roll. This ran for ~10m and luckily propagation was minimal. We believe this released on a SHx layer observed by and discussed with a local guide prior to skiing. This layer likely dodged being destroyed by the wind given its leeward, semi-sheltered location at treeline and was touchy when buried by the last few days' storm snow. It will be interesting to see if this persists at all with the coming storms.
The NE trees were skiing very nicely in the open areas, but there are still partially covered hazards lurking as the trees get denser.
