We Started up the main up track climbers right of the black prince fan. Intended to ride glades at the top of the fan but missed a turn and ended up climbing the ridge climbers right of the gully. Noted on steeper slopes that the fresh snow from last week hadn’t settled much so it was difficult to find a solid surface to stand on as it wanted to fall away, no real base to stand on. Skied down the south aspect of the ridge and felt No signs of instability on the way down even on the steeper slopes, still very sharky though. Snow depth was measured at ~40cm to ground at 2135m which was as high as we ventured. This was on a flat section partway up the ridge but somewhat consistent with the rest of the climb. We Couldn’t see October crust from slicing the snowpack but there was evidence of faceting at the very base of the snowpack. The day was cloudy with intermittent fog rolling in maybe around 2300-2400m. No wind at the lower elevations. Didn’t see any signs of wind slabs but didn’t hit the 2300m+ threshold suggested in the avalanche forecast for the day.
