Feather Glacier

martinrichard9, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

At the parking, the temperature was -18°c with light north wind. There was poor visibility and flat light all day. The snow was deep and fluffy (30-40cm ski penetration) from the parking to the top of the glacier! The more the day went on, the warmer it got; the temperature rose to -5°c. Around 1300 we smell the sea air. The wind was now coming from the south. At the beginning, it was light but around 1500, the wind picked up (moderate to strong). We were in a whiteout. It snowed all day and by the end of the day it was snowing quite hard. The snow we skied was amazing. We skied the top of the glacier (1650m) to the under the parking lot (flat section of Captain William Moore Creek close to the road). We release a small loose dry avalanche (size1) when we crossed a slope (NW): 10m wide by 30m long No whumpfing, no shooting crack.
