We got out to Hasler today to have a look at the effects of last nights storm. Things really warmed up in the morning with temperatures hitting a balmy -5! To top it off, the area had received a refresh with 25cm of new snow at waiting for us. Winds from the southwest created a fresh wind slab just below ridge lines that was 20 - 40cm deep and reactive. As we were heading up into the alpine we saw long cracks shooting from our skis. We also noticed an avalanche on a similar slope that had gone sometime during the storm. After popping out a small avalanche on a small, safe test slope we decided to avoid these wind loaded areas and stayed in sheltered areas away from the wind where we found great powder riding! We had a lot of great turns and out fair share of stucks that made for one pleasant day.
