Mountain Conditions Report

This past week we ran an Avalanche Search and Rescue (AvSAR) Advanced Skills course in Parc Gaspesie for the Canadian Avalanche Association, in partnership with Avalanche Quebec.

I ski toured today on Mont Hog’s Back with the Avalanche Quebec forecaster (Fred) in the Chic Chocs, Quebec.

Clear skies, and -20C at noon on the north summit, 830m with light northeast winds. It was quite busy with many skiers, split boarders, snowshoers, and hikers.

We investigated a size 1 avalanche that was skier triggered on February 19th at about 700m on a northeast aspect. It ran about 30m, 30m wide, and 20cm to 50cm deep. It looked like it ran reluctantly on the February 16th rain crust.

No other avalanches observed. A beautiful day in the Chic Chocs!

Jordy Shepherd
ACMG / IFMGA Mountain Guide
www.PeakAlpine.com
