Compound Gully Left

jake.foster12, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Ice climbing in the Compound Gullies. We climbed the left gully to the top, which was mostly decent ice. The second pitch is a bit thin with water running behind the right side, and the final pitch has a bunch of ice-covered snow on the shelves, but everything protected well. The snow is very low tide on this side of the park, but thick hard windslabs are lurking on the climber's left side of the gully, sitting on facets on the ground, and moving easily in hand shears. They taper quickly and are generally small, but they are somewhat bulbous. We managed to tip toe around them to use the tree anchors on the left on the way up and down.
