Type 2 Fun

Been a few years since I've been down this valley. Tricky route finding through the creek and trees to get further down the valley to the Mt Smart Avalanche Path. Surface hoar (10-15mm) and near surface facetting was very prominent in the valley and continued up to ~1600m. Less prominent above 1600m but still was able to find 5mm SH on surface on treed aspects sheltered from sun. 1cm breakable sun crust on steeper solar aspects. During the day. Minimal solar inputs with some broken cloud, calm to light wind, -3.0 alpine high. HS @ 1200m was ~50cm, @ 1620m was 115cm. Wet loose sz 1.5 evident on Southerly aspect. 24hrs+ old. Nice to find fresh tracks this long after the last storm. Great day.
