Sky pilot trees

mcleay.archer, Saturday 28th December, 2024 11:00AM
Snowing at 900m, alternating between rain, snow, and sleet until 1200m. Lots of tree bombs and pinwheeling on the way up but no natural slides seen. Managed to trigger a small .5 avalanche with the new storm slabs on a 40degree unsupported convex roll. Dug a quick pit at 1500m, at the top of the tree roll in sparce cover, west facing, around 25 degree slope. The pit was 1.5m deep. 60cm of new snow that turned firm. At 90cm there was an ice crust. Results of column test went at 60cm on the new slab at 25. Second layer went at 28 at 80cms.
