Fraser Chutes

mholmes, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Saturday held 5-15cms of poorly bonded newer snow on top of a melt-freeze crust. We noted that the crust was thick enough to support the weight of a rider, and often thick enough to support a person standing. Below the melt-freeze crust was 10-20cms of 1F rounds. Below these rounds are two separate layers of facets, about 5cms thick each down 30cm and 50cm in this location. The group did hear a few whumps, but was unable to get any shooting cracks or small slides off of test slopes. We took a conservative approach to the day, sticking to terrain under 30 degrees ( mostly 25) and had some great skiing! It was snowing throughout the day, with light winds at valley bottom, and moderate westerly winds at treeline. Also noted was the snowpack was moist to around 30cms down.
