North of Valemount a bit

curtis, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Still wont allow pics to upload from android or iphone. Southern north rockies snowpack. Avg 2m snowpack at upper treeline elevations. Alpine seemed much shallower with significant rock exposure. Numerous cornice breaks, and solar sluffung, zero signs of slab avalanches. Very quick test prof at 2200m Ne sap 235cm. Pf 15cm. Two 3cm MF crusts in upper 30cms otherwise extremely solid 1f-p midpack. Only dug 150cm down. Ctm below upper crust down 10cm otherwise nothing but a sore hand. Surface snow is generally very crusty. Alpine temps did not soften most of the surface snow today. Below 1800m snow was very wet and loose (isothermal) sledding was difficult at this elevation. Sun was very hot when out for its brief moments.
