French Robertson sastrugi fest !

We expected terrible snow so we went with plan B and did the French Haig Robertson traverse. Terrible snow (well, actually not bad coming down on hard wind slab but we grew up skiing in Quebec!). Make sure your edges are sharpened. Zero ski pen up French - just sastrugi and rock that got transported by the winds. Pole pen (is that a thing?) was like 5mm at most! Just went up the guts of French, the crust was bullet proof. Didn’t even bother to probe HS on glaciers today. Boot pack to Robertson col melted a bit with the sun, but lots of ice was seen (crampons were useful but not mandatory today - will be different if skies overcast). Ski down Robertson was like skiing out East - you had to pick a line with no sastrugi (skiers left) and just dig in those edges - it actually was better than expected as the crust was supportive. Fast travel - took us 6.5h car to car with breaks and lunch.
