Stormy Sibolas
AvCan Northwest,
Wednesday 12th March, 2025 5:00PM
Today, we rode in the Sibolas. There is significantly less snow than in previous seasons. We dug a snow pit at 1400m and found only 160cm of snow. 20cm beneath the surface we found the March 5th surface hoar layer. In a compression test, we were able to produce moderate results on this layer. In an extended column test we were not able to get any results. The rest of the snowpack seemed well. there was a moderate northeast wind, and it snowed consistently through the day. There was 5-10cm on our tracks at the end of the day. We did not observe any avalanches today but visibility was poor.
