White Pass east
Yukon Field Team,

Today we skied on the east side of White Pass. The sledding across Fantail flats was great with 100 cm of coverage in most places. We parked our sleds at treeline and headed for the alpine. We dug a snow pit at 1550 m. We found 220 cm of snow. The only layer of concern we found was a layer of preserved surface/depth hoar down 35 cm from the snow surface. In an extended column test, we were not able to produce any propagating results. As we moved into the alpine there were variable snow depths with exposed rocks on the surface in some areas. The alpine was wind effected but ski quality was still good with with few slab properties in the new snow. Skiing treeline was excellent with no wind effect on the new snow. We had good views through the day into the alpine and did not observe any avalanches.
