French Haig Robertson

Once we got past the type 2 fun of the French Glacier (think dark, side-hilling, wind scoured, 50km winds in the face for over an hour) and broke out into the sunshine and beautiful views of the Haig our day was made. Winds had periods of strong to extreme in the alpine. We were at the boot pack up to Robertson Col ~11am and it was still solid and supportive. At that point there were no fresh pin wheels or point releases, however lots of evidence of up to size 2 slides from the previous day. Riding down Robertson, the sun had hit it enough soften it up just enough to enjoy some turns. Any earlier and it would have been spicy icy wind scoured. Timing is the name of the game now. Exiting the valley we heard 2 large sounding slides but couldn't see them from the trees @ ~1:30 p.m.
