NRC - Crusts & sunny skiing

Taylor Weixl, Tuesday 9th March, 2021 8:15PM

It was a beautiful day to ski a bit of everything at NRC. We dug @ 2020m on a SW aspect (at around 11 am) and found 10-15 cm of storm snow between 4cm of breakable crust on the top and a 2cm thick crust below. We did two compression tests and got resistant planar results at the crust down 15 cm (CTM13 and CTE5). The breakable crust was very much intact for the top section of our first run, but things softened up further down and there were a couple pitches of nice skiing. It was getting quite warm on the way up for our second run and the surface snow was getting moist. It was -13 when we left the parking lot at 8:45am and was +1 when we got back around 3pm.
