Cloudy day in Ogden N area and windy (NW) in Phantom couloir. We opted to go climbers left up the terminal moraine (close to the cliffs but low overhead hazards) b/c slope there is uniform /self supported as opposed to the main rolling slopes of the moraine (deep persistent layers and wind affected near the top of the moraines). No whumpfing / cracking observed.
No cornice at top of couloir but snow has been hard-pressed / stripped to near ice at the very top. In the main of the couloir the Upper 40cm of the snowpack was fairly supportive but just not enough for bootpacking making progress very slow. Bottom of the couloir debris made bootpacking easy there.
