Windy Pass

Steve 'Reidles' Reid, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Strong winds redistributing the 14cm of new snow. Widespread wind affect in alpine. Scouring to ground in places, and building touchy windslab. This windslab is VERY hard and dense in places, easily triggers and would spoil your day. Crossloading very evident, be wary of rapid transitions from light snow to hard slab. Widespread whumpfing at treeline. Shooting cracks extend 20+ m from skis. Ski testing easily produced sz 1 activity, and one remote sz 1. Natural avalanches observed in rocky South start zones, and one in NE start zone. Temps stayed positive all day, leading to moistening snow and lots of adhesion to skins. Good turns to be had below treeline in particular 'Kylie's Trees', less so in 'Francois' Meadows'.
