Dust on Crust
North Rockies

In Hasler, the December 6th crust was solid enough to easily support sleds. On top of that crust was some new snow that made for fun riding in sheltered areas. In the Alpine, that new snow was stripped from westerly aspects onto easterly aspects and not moving with moderate winds. We found that the new snow had bonded well to the crust and we didn't see any signs of insurability or recent avalanches. So we felt comfortable working into bigger terrain on lee aspects.
